There and Then Here and Now

By Magda Selmeci (About The Author)

Marika believes what her parents and grandparents taught her: that human beings are basically honest, and that knowledge is our most valued treasure. Her beliefs are soon shattered.
The exposure to discrimination in her native Hungary, because she is a Jewess, takes a heavy toll on her family and friends.
Her quest for science presents the question: Is science helping or ultimately destroying mankind?
After the Second World War, Marika and her friends try to rebuild their lives at different parts of the world and in different ways. Some stay in Hungary, some go to Israel, and some come to Canada to search for peace, security and prosperity as well as for a just society.
Marika is in touch with her friends and through their as well as through her own experience, she realizes that those goals are just as elusive anywhere now as they were sixty years ago in wartime Hungary.
